Lighting solutions & torches used by Police in Australia
Most are aware policing is a 24 hour a day profession. Providing police with adequate lighting to safely perform all the tasks of their profession requires a variety of solutions, from small appointment belt carried torches for General Duties officers to Remote Area Lighting solutions for specialist units such as Search & Rescue or Tactical units. The days of the large torches of the past are well behind us, as the need for lower belt weights (due to the multitude of devices carried on the standard police appointment belt or vest) and environmentally sound recharging solutions hit home. These days the new torches offer much lighter weight than before (150 grams versus 1,000 grams), higher output (1,210 lumens versus 110 lumens) and greater versatility with high, medium, low beam and strobe.

The Wolf Eyes Sniper II Pro (and Sniper 260 before it) are one of a new breed of LED torches which are changing the perception of what is a police flashlight or torch. These small tactical torches weigh a fraction of what the old baton like flashlights did, which reduces injury from excessive belt weight but also means that the torch is always with the officer such as the middle of the day when they enter an underground carpark or warehouse. Of course putting out over 1,210 lumens, almost ten times the light of the baton like flashlights has provided safety benefits such as being able to see through tinted windows. The varying levels such as high, medium and low beam provide the right amount of light at the right time with low being perfect for paperwork. Strobe has proven a handy tool for crowd control. The rechargeable batteries provide a handy financial advantage in running costs and also the knowledge the right thing is being done environmentally. Optional traffic cones are available & in use, while the optional tape switch has allowed a number of tactical units to use these torches firearm mounted.

The 150 metres throw of the Wolf Eyes Pro Police Torch has made it a favourite of rural stations and officers, or units which need the extra distance. Even with this output this torch is only 15cm in length, with the only size concession being made to achieve this performance being the slightly larger 43mm head. The Procap (the same as used on the Sniper II Pro) allows preselection of different modes before turning the torch on. This is particularly handy for things like the disorientating strobe for use in crowd control. The Procap allows 4 levels of beam strength, an emergency strobe and disorientating strobe for this torch. It utilises the Wolf Eyes standard rechargeable batteries.
Supplier information:
The three LEDs of the Wolf Eyes T3 II Pro allow a huge amount of light to be put forward of this torch, in this case 1,400 lumens. With the optional tape switch this unit has found use with tactical units mounted to firearms. This is due to it's dominant amount of light with good central spot and surrounding flood. It has the Wolf Eyes standard features of varying beam levels such as high, medium and low with strobe and utilises the Wolf Eyes standard rechargeable batteries.
Supplier information:
The Wolf Eyes X-Beam IR has both an IR LED in it and also a white LED in it. The IR LED is available in both 850 Nm or 940 Nm making it highly suitable to be used for covert surveillance or to provide black light for tactical operations. It has the Wolf Eyes standard features of varying beam levels such as high, medium and low with strobe and utilises the Wolf Eyes standard rechargeable batteries.

These days Area Lights are used for everything from Command Posts, Traffic Management, Rescue and even for Evacuation Centres! The reasons for this are many, from the extreme portability (the FoxFury Nomad RAL is 85cm in length closed) to the 30 second set up time to become a 2.4 metre high area light. Being self contained there are no power leads required and the silent running means every whisper can be heard during a rescue or vehicle extrication. The light weight means they can be carried quickly to rescues which are off the road and down embankments or similar. nine hours of runtime mean the FoxFury Nomad remote area light has enough power to light till dawn in most areas of Australia. Uniquely the Nomad Remote Area Light offer both spot and flood from the one light.

There are anumber of different wavelengths of light used, which FoxFury supplies in flashlight, headlamp and even area light form. This is a specialist area.
Supplier information:
